I have many years experience as a proofreader, correcting, editing and, where necessary, substantially rewriting translated texts or original English texts written by either native or non-native speakers of English. In addition, as a published novelist with an academic background in both science and the humanities, I am sensitive to good style across a range of genres. In general, I pride myself on my ability to correct and revise both academic and non-academic texts to a high standard.
By profession, I am a British school and university teacher with twenty-five years teaching experience, seventeen of these as a teacher of English language and academic writing at schools and universities in the Czech Republic. In particular, having lived in the Czech Republic for thirty years and as a Czech speaker with enormous experience in interpreting, correcting and reformulating the typical forms of English written by Czech scientific authors, I believe I offer an unparalleled service in this area of work. My goal with every job is to produce the most natural sounding, most ‘perfect’ text possible.
Most of my clients are academics working in the hard sciences – specifically, chemistry, applied chemistry, the material sciences, bio-chemistry, biology, botany, and genetics; however, I also cooperate with academics from the social sciences, Law, and the Humanities.
